Bill,Chelsea Clinton end local visit with community service in Liberty City
President Bill Clinton and his daughter Chelsea ended their weekend trip to South Florida with a day of community service in Miami's Liberty City neighborhood.
Their appearance comes one day after they joined Hillary Clinton at the Clinton Global Initiative University Conference, where they spoke to hundreds of students from around the world at the BankUnited Center at the University of Miami's Coral Gables campus.Saturday evening, the former first lady, who was greeted with a standing ovation, unveiled No Ceilings: The Full Participation Project, a new initiative on which she'd collaborated with her daughter aimed at helping women and girls across the globe. "This is a global data project which measures the gains that women and girls have made around the world over the past 20 years, but also highlights the gaps that remain," she said.Throughout the weekend, though, the first family also fielded questions about controversy surrounding a private e-mail address Hillary used to conduct official government business during her time as secretary of state. In Liberty City Sunday, a reporter asked Bill whether his wife has been treated fairly regarding the contentious matter. The former commander in chief replied, "I'm not the one to judge that. I have opinions, but I have a bias."Detractors said Hillary's usage of a private e-mail to conduct State Department business gave the potential presidential candidate extraordinary over what later became public record and what remained private.Chelsea, on the other hand, also declined to discuss the issue. "Well, you'll have to ask her about that. As her daughter, we e-mail about Thanksgiving dinner and our plans to watch a movie on Friday night," she told reporters.Last week, Hillary tweeted she'd asked the State Department to release her e-mails.The timing of this revelation could not be more sensitive, as candidates test the waters ahead of the presidential race. Hillary, however, remained quiet on her 2016 aspirations.Regarding her mother's decision whether or not to run for the presidency, Chelsea said, "I support my mom in whatever decision she chooses to make. I'm her daughter, and I'm so grateful to be her daughter."Hillary did not address the e-mail scandal while she was in South Florida.President Barack Obama has said it's the administration's policy to encourage transparency among staff.
